The Last one, the Exam, the RELIEF!
It's a really mixed bag - complete relief that the exam is over, a bit sad that my digital bubble is also over. Such a truly great group of individuals - thank you Digital Bubble...
I look back and think about how much I've learned, and in truth; it's huge!
I'm proud of the fact that we have worked as a team, the school, my cohort and my digital bubble. The support has been great.
A special thanks to Latham for appearing on my doorstep IMMEDIATELY after I sent a text asking for help. Colleagues like Latham are worth their weight in gold - Thank you!

The Penultimate DFI...
So if this is the penultimate DFI - that means the exam is next week. Am I worried - no, am I anxious - Yes! We'll see....
I enjoyed beginning to understand the rudiments of coding. It's all very logical and made a great deal of sense. I love the idea of being able to use it across a number of different subjects. One of the slides showed a great use of scratch for geometry. I'm looking forward to giving it a go in the classroom.
I had a play with scratch and created an exceedingly simple first attempt - I'm sure that while my kids will say 'well done' they'll be thinking, "I can do heaps better than that!" I've got to start somewhere!

Peer Feedback
There are some seriously talented people out there!
Some learning sites are SO creative and just beg to be viewed and explored. I was inspired by my colleagues and look forward to the opportunity that the term break brings to add a little 'spark' to our class site.
I've learned that I really do need to be 'better managed' when it comes to my drive, especially around using folders with open sharing so I'm not double-checking everything that goes on the site. So much easier - IF - I better manage myself. It's like all the other things in life that you know you should do, but somehow, until the old habit is changed and the new embedded you plod along on the same route. So, along with getting fit, eating healthier and changing the way I manage my drive - here's to a better way of doing things.

DFI and how to make your bubble laugh and embarrass yourself!
The DFI is over the halfway mark - scary!
I'm still not sure about what I'm learning, sounds silly, but, I take most of it in at the time and then it's a blur later in the week. I think it would be really good to do the DFI in pairs and with someone at a similar level of competency as yourself.
I was working in my bubble today and needed to record myself - I thought I had muted the bubble meet. We all know what thought is - well it's not fact! I had trouble with the recording and repeated it 3 times - clearly with a level of increasing frustration. When finished, I discovered everyone in my bubble meet and been listening - shine a light! How embarrassing! The learning? Check and double-check with regards to mute buttons and cameras!
I've successfully, sort of, completed my first screencastify. What an amazing tool this is going to be! I'm looking forward to making a bank of small lessons for my troubled boys to use as part of their re-winding project.
Happy Days!

June 2nd
Kate- you're amazing! You do all this google site stuff and make it look SO easy! I'm catching up but it will take me some time!
So today, I have made a very basic learning site - note the word basic...
As always, I seem to take longer than everybody else so I will publish my site... but as per normal it's not quite finished. Hopefully, over the next few days, I'll complete the google form as the assessment and clean up the other links.
But, check it out!

Maps and Data...
Looking at 'My Mapping' brings home the fact that all those lovely trips that were planned for this year will all. now, be a few years away!! So hearing about where everyone has enjoyed being in the past - lets me know I'm definitely not alone!!
I tried to complete a map of a road trip around Europe - as with all my posts, it's not yet finished!!

Week Three and Lockdown is OVER!!!
Sadly the DFI is still online. Amazingly nothing seems quite as tiring as when we were teaching online - even today's DFI feels easier.
Today, I have been learning how to create a slide show as a quiz. I managed to get just one question completed and a second on the way, but hopefully, by the time anyone gets to read this - I'll be finished. It's not pretty, but I felt it was more important to get the 'structure and backstage stuff' done before I forget what I'm doing!
I'll share it here....

Week Two
This week, more than ever, I have an appreciation of the student's journey. I'm sitting doing my DFI in one of our 'break out rooms' and a number of my students (essential worker's children) are in class. They have sat there all day - they look exhausted, as I'm sure I do too! The amount we are all learning is remarkable. We're doing things this week that I wouldn't have thought possible just a few weeks ago. We're becoming more adept every day.
I'm thinking that the recording function could be used not just as the 'rewindable learning when you didn't quite get it' but also for the 'I'm not taking things in right now - I'll re-wind it later when I'm fresher'
I won't do this again... without editing it first but... hopefully here's my first recording:

And here we are again!!
Covid cut us short,,, but we're back on the journey of digital learning and I need it more than ever!!
Teaching online is a wonderful experience - I'm sure - but it's hard work when everything you do is part of your own learning! I want to take my kids learning beyond just the google meet and then sending them away to do the tasks I've set. So, I need to upskill and in a short time frame.
I've set my self the goal of teaching my kids at least two things from each DFI. This week it's going to be the voice typing for reading mileage. How good is that?
Next, it will be to show them google docs for creating using tables. Let's see if they can make a better job than me!
Clearly - my next step learning is to find out how to put my screenshot in here!

Blog - The Tired One!
Week Two.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional? Actually - after the last session? I feel like I've taken a step backwards. The 'Google Hangout' session this morning was good and I was looking forward to the afternoon session as a means of consolidating that learning. Instead, what happened, was it didn't work, there were too many issues and the learning from this morning is now muddied. I guess the saving grace is that the learning, is, rewindable! The Google Keep I need to start using ASAP.
Check it out!!!

What did I learn that could be used with my learners? Model, Model, Model! and never assume!
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life? Until I get my workplace workflow sorted there is little time for personal life!!
But hey! I've learned how to find my downloads (Oh my goodness, that's life-changing!) I've learned (Thanks to Nic!) how to link other documents - I did know this but when it doesn't work? I can now fix it! And I've sorted all my bookmarks! Who knew what was contained in those 3 little dots!!!

Week One.
So, the journey begins. Nine weeks. I've got this... really?
It was interesting to hear a more detailed version of the beginning of the Manaiakalani Trust. I'd always thought of the beginning of the trust as still being in the 'digital' age - I can't imagine trying to set such an enterprise up when classrooms only had one or two computers! (if they were lucky)
The idea of sorting my folders out and actually colour coding them is going to be great! However, I rather think it will be something that I do from now on - really do I have enough time to go through my existing stuff?
Sadly, I'm learning that I have to take my time (age?) when learning how to extend myself with the technology. Does anyone else have this sort of problem? Thankfully, sitting in a classroom and being aware of this can only help in the classroom. Crikey - how many times in class do I think... were you not listening? Happily, now perhaps I'll be able to empathise and ask "Am I going to fast?" Hey better still, put all the instructions on a rewindable video - hopefully future weeks learning might show me how to do that.
I'm enjoying the learning but seriously hope I can retain it all to use and share in our hub. I guess you have to use it often until it's embedded.
